Bernardo Secchi

Bernardo Secchi is an architect. He is associated with Paola Viganò since 1990 in the Studio Associato Bernardo Secchi Paola Viganò based in Milan and other cities including Brussels. He has taught architecture and urbanism in many universities : Milan, Venice, Geneva, Leuven, Zurich and Rennes. He is coordinating research on transformation of habitat in contemporary territory.
Bernardo Secchi participated in the design of a new urban plan for Madrid (1984), Jesi (1988), Abano Terme (1992), for the historic centre of Ascoli Piceno (1993), Bergamo (1994), Prato (1996), Brescia (1998), Pesaro (1999) ...He was awarded prizes in several architecture or urban competitions in many countries. In Belgium, he won an award in 1990 for the urban planning of the southern section of Kortrijk, and worked on the Grand Place and the new cemetery completed in 1999. More recently, he was also selected to design the new urban park, Spoornoord, and for the Place des Théâtres both in Antwerp, as well as for Schaarbeek zone in Brussels.
In 2004, he was awarded an honorary doctorate (docteur honoris causa) from the Université Mendés France of Grenoble, and received the Grand Prix of urbanism and urban art. He is a founding member of Archivio di studi Urbani e Regionali. Since 1982, he is also member of the board of editors of Casabella where he was writing until 1997.From 1984 to 1990, he was director of Urbanistica. In 2006, Bernardo Secchi and Paola Viganò were both in charge of the exhibit Water and Asphalt : the project of isotropy for the metropolitan region of Venice in Venice Architecture Biennale.
