PLEA2011 Awards to Architects

=> Back to Awards

The selection process of the Plea Award 2011 followed two objectives:
- To enlighten “small scale” architecture rather than large scale projects
- To illustrate various sustainable design approaches through a shared award between three firms.

The awrardees were chosen amoung a short list of 29 architectural firms preselected. All of those firms were invited to send a short text answering the question: “How the concept of sustainable development impacts your architectural design, beyond the implementation of green building techniques?”. They were asked to illustrate their answer with one of their projects.

The prize: An original serigraphy of Luc Schuiten

Luc Schuiten is a Belgian visionary architect.
Committed in an ecological thought, concerned about the future of the planet and about the life conditions of the men to come, he dedicated a part of his activity to science fiction. His time is now mainly spent with drawing, painting, working on books and exhibitions.
His drawings are a way to explore the futur possibilities and gave birth to a new architecture, based upon a poetic vision where invention and relation with nature occupy a predominant place.
Inspired by nature and biomimetism, his propositions go from transportations to housing and cities of tomorrow. He imagined future development for cities such as Bruxelles, Lyon, Nantes and Sao Paulo. The serigraphy realized for PLEA 2011 is part of his last work on Sao Paulo.
